I just cant imagine how you could better this restore in an encore of any other machine

I hope you're wrong because I also have my 1959 Pinch Hitter to do one day :D
It won't have the charm of he 3D figures but it's a really cool game in its own right and probably more fun to play with the home-run deck and ramps plus the curve ball feature.

NO SLEEP TILL A-TOWN!!!
7 days left

One week! UGHH!!
I appear to be ahead of schedule but, there are always hiccups along the way.

Today I finished off the legs and brought them home. Also cleaned up and painted the playfield support arm and the back panel. I'll splatter a little yellow paint on those later just for cosnsistency.

When I got home I was pretty eager to get the legs one, so that was the first task.

The legs are usually a grey or hammertone finish but, as most people tend to do, I went with red and I think it's very striking! Just a super elegant looking cabinet and the legs are the finishing touch.

The next order of business was to clean up some OP wiring hacks and then re-install the pitching motor and close up the bottom of the playfield and re-install the ball trough.

With the pitching unit installed I was able to attach the umpire, pitcher and the catcher. All the figures are now back.

It was now pretty late and I hadn't gotten around to re-building the control panel and plugging it in yet. However, my impatience got the better of me and I plugged the game in and fired it up. I hear a hum which frekaed me out a bit. Turned the game off and on again and it seemed to stop. maybe a locked coil?
My attempt at foling the game into free-play didn't work and I wasn't able to start a game... but eveythign did light up and manually depressing the coin switch did get the score reels turning and the game attempts a start sequence.

I was tired and figured I would troubleshoot it Thursday night... but it was still nice to see the running man unit and backglass all lit up for the first time.

NO SLEEP TILL A-TOWN!!!

I spent a lot of time on Friday trying to find some schematics for the game so I could have a hope in hell of tracking down my ghost.
I was very surprised to learn that IPDB and other online sources didn't have anything.

Near the end of the day one of my leads, a posting for help on Pinside, yielded some fruit in the form of two high res photos of the game's schematics! As crazy as some of the characters and discussions on Pinside are, the EM hangout and the guys that post there are some of the best online 'pinfolk' I've come across.

I printed a set to bring home but I knew I'd probably need some help so I also forwarded them to my friend Corey at http://londonpinball.ca/
As most of us know, good pinball techs (especially EM ones) don't grow on trees :) and Corey has been a huge help over the last couple of years in helping to familiarize me with diagnosing and repairing these games.

When I finally got into the workshop, my first task was to rebuild the control panel and get it plugged into the game.
I'm really glad I opted to get my metal parts chromed. The bat, which was fully etched and pitted before, just looks awesome now.

I had also made a stop earlier at Pacific Fasteners to pick up some elusive hardware.
I needed some 10-24 carriage bolts and these guys have great stock and willing to sell in quantities.
I used these to replace a few missing bolts... two of which are responsible for locking down the running man unit; so kinda important.

The last items for the day were the repainted back door panel and the playfield support bar. Both got the same treatment as the main cabinet and will help to finish off the project nicely. Just need to add a new lock and done.

As for my ghost.... NOTHING :(
I spent another hour or so trying to get the game to start. It appeared as if the OUTS stepper unit was firing too many times and quickly running into 3 outs before the game could even start. I looked everywhere for a shorted switch but nothing.
The schematic and Corey helped me identify what switches on the score motor to investogate and where else to look... but still no luck.
In the end it was pretty late I and felt pretty defeated. The restoration is essentially done (minus a couple of missing labels) but not being able to start a game is killing me. At one point, even the credit switches on the coin door were doing nothing.

It was time for bed.

NO SLEEP TILL A-TOWN!!!
5 days left... and COMPLETE, well sorta.

IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it works :)
After futzing around for another hour today I noticed one little thing.
I knew that it had to be a short that was not letting me add credits or start a game via the replay (start) button.
However, when I pressed the associated relays in, the game did seem to want to start a game but never quite was able to complete it's sequence to do so.

I was just about to start pulling steppers and score motors out of the game when I noticed a very small thing.
As I nosed in closer to the start or index relay... can't recall which one now, I noticed that the fine little wires that come from the coil to the lugs were touching. This short must've simply been preventing the coil from firing and starting a game... along with causing all manner of other associated havoc.

I was able to FINALLY start a game via the replay button and all features appear to be working perfectly.
The only remaining glitch appears to be that my match light stays on the whole game and several match numbers just light up as I play. A switch is stuck closed somehwere, nothing major. I'll find it tomorrow.

That being said, I am officially declaring this project complete.
Yes, I was an idiot and forgot to order a new sheet of custom sized glass and I still need to print a couple of labels for inside the cab, but I'm sure you guys will give me a pass on those minor details unil I get a chance to get them done during the week.

If Sunday turns out to be a nice day I will probably roll this out onto the driveway and take a few glamour shots to post for everyone.

45 days! Not too shabby me-thinks.

Aso, in an effort to pay it forward a little, here are the pics of the schematics that Pinsider OLDCARZ sent me.
Maybe they'll help someone else out in future too.

Sweet. I'm going to allow for some extra "packing time" for this one on Thursday morning. Purty!
Waiting to see the "money photo shot". Great work as usual. Glad you documented it for others to see.

Thanks everyone!

I added a few more pics. I was in a rush last night.

I'm getting a lot of pressure from the family to keep this one. Oye!!! :(
The prospect of keeping two P&B is a bit daunting. However, if you're gonna have two, this one and Pinch Hitter are two of the best.

Looking forward to the next one!

Just got back today from Allentown.
Official Baseball was a huge hit and was running non-stop. It was awesome to see that, not only were all of the older collectors and enthusiasts all over the machine, but also tons of kids and families enjoyed this 55 year old gem.

With my own kids and wife pressuring me to keep this one, I placed an extremely high price tag on the game and was happy to bring it home again... but with one extra enhancement.

I didn't even realize that Pinfest handed out awards so it was a VERY cool surprise to receive the nomination notice and then be awarded the blue ribbon. A nice and unexpected way to cap off this great project.

Now.... to find basement space ;)

Congrats on award at Allentown and your hard work paid off. I'm glad you didn't sell it because now I can try it next time I am over.
