I've just used some stuff that I got from Marco a while back (NevrDull), and it's pretty good for doing rails and ball guides. Not as good as what you'll get with a buffer, but at least better than doing nothing to them at all.

Changed the batteries in all my pins, and noticed that the ones in LOTR had never been changed (still zip tied down). Also managed to do it without losing any settings this time-I know last year I had a problem with the crummy battery holders on WPC boards and managed to lose all my TZ high...

It sucks, but there's not much you can do if you still want to order from those places. Only way I've found to mitigate it is to wait until I need a bunch of stuff to put in an order, and then ask around for others to split shipping with.
