New JJP WoZ variant on and hands on with Wrestlemania at EAG show in London

That WOZ variant is a good idea. Sounds like it makes for a bigger programming effort, but if it gets games out in the field again, then it helps. Of course, Stern's version of redemption didn't seem to light the world on fire, but this sounds like it's much more tailored to that environment...

    WWE LE Pics are up

So on the LE, the left and right ramps can both divert to make an "orbit", but I can't see where the ball gets into those wireforms that come off the ring (looks like one feeds the tag team hole, and one to the shooter lane). Those standing plastics with the wrestler pictures also look really...

    WWE LE Pics are up

It's easy enough to test-stand in front of a game, and see if you can reach the bottom of the backbox. I'd be fine, but my wife and kids wouldn't be able to reach it. Of course, the easy solution is to just attach a power bar to it, but it's still a little strange that they'd make a change...

    WWE LE Pics are up

Nothing on that feature list about "traditional power switch location" :) It looks like with the relocation of the transformer, the power switch is going to be at the bottom of the backbox. Not impossible to reach for me, but not as easy as the traditional location for everyone. LE looks...

    Any experts on MAME?

Just as an aside, how are the aimtrack guns? I've got one of the old ACT-Labs ones, and it's never worked quite right.

    Any experts on MAME?

Those are the ones that use the IR sensors, right? What's the issue? I never had any luck with getting light guns to work properly, but I was using a different gun setup (can't remember the name offhand, but it used an svideo passthrough to a CRT). Also, which games have you had an issue...

Looks like the newest Stern pin is...

So it's Trudeau doing the PF, and Waison doing the code... We'll see how that works out.

    Original Playfields vs Reproductions?

I think the general consensus is that all things being equal, original or NOS is better, but things are rarely equal. Given the choice between a beat up original PF and a good repro, the repro is probably better. Of course, there are cases where reproductions have bad colours etc where you'd...

Looks like the newest Stern pin is...

OK, so it looks like the ramp shots might not always go to the upper PF-it might be able to go right around and come back to the opposite ramp?

Looks like the newest Stern pin is...

So with the new platform, I wonder what that changes with respect to code? Still raw assembly, or does that move things up to C++, or even to a higher level scripting language like Python? If the rules are easier to implement, then you'd think that you could iterate on them faster than before...

Looks like the newest Stern pin is...

Ah, the long promised new board system... Looking forward to seeing how this works. As for the game...we'll see how it plays. Looks pretty sparse from first glance.

Looks like the newest Stern pin is...

Makes sense I suppose, although I don't have any idea where wrestling is in popularity right now. There was the boom in the 80s, and again in the late 90s/early 2000s, but now? Not sure how many people care, or if there's enough of a zeitgeist to have it do really well on location, but someone...

    Pinball Life Order Toronto (Pingulp)

I've always thought that the collapsible ones looked a little flimsy, but that's just me. If you're out to TOPL at all, there's a member who makes his own that are just as good as the PBL ones though, but much cheaper ($20 a pair I believe). In any case, I'm probably doing a PBL order...

JPOP - MG, RAZA and AIW pics

That's looking like something approximating a complete game! Great to see progress, and hoping to play these sometime, but the proof will be in how it shoots, and how it's programmed. I have really liked some of the things John has done with magnets and unexpected shots (like the orbit->ramp...

FS "Not Mine" Pinball Machines For Sale

Sopranos is actually a fun game when you run into it. It's not super deep, and I don't think it's a $5000 game, but for the right price, why not?

Number of games played a concern?

The other thing to keep in mind is that anytime people use the "mileage" in an ad, it's immediately suspect. Resetting the audits on a game is pretty trivial, so there's nothing to say that it's actually an accurate measure of the number of games played on a machine anyway. That being said, I...

The Hobbit Full Playfield Posted by JJP

New PF looks nice in the cab-sounds like shipments are still a ways off though. When do you guys think we'll reasonably see this game-April? June? At least more time might mean that the code is further along? I'm sure it'll be great once it's done, but at least to start with, I'm not sure...

Pinball licencing 101: how much, why – and Harry Potter

See, $100-$200 per machine when they cost 8000 isn't really that big a deal, expecially if that gives them access to all the assets they need, and possibly even time with actors for speech. I'm sure costs were ower back in the day (given that pins could be seen as advertising in lots of cases)...

Pinball licencing 101: how much, why – and Harry Potter

I'm a little surprised at the numbers there actually-less than $100 a game? Is that per licensor though? What about games where you get talent to do custom speech-is that part of the package, a one off session fee, or a whole separate per-game license?
