    GTB Raven sound issues

Use the exact same VR1 zener diode number. For C7, you can use the same, or a 100uF 50V for better filtering if you want.

    GTB Raven sound issues

If this was a machine under repair here, I would replace the zener diode on the aux power supply with a proper replacement and at least try to get the -12V proper, and also check the capacitor with my ESR cap tester - from the data you have provided us.

So... R7 is good (very close to expected 100 ohms). Where are you placing the red and black probes in each direction of the zener diode test? The readings do not seem to make sense... Pinball machine is OFF, right? Can you measure that zener diode again with the connector removed on the aux...

    GTB Raven sound issues

If unplugging 6P1, & checked pin 5 of the aux. power supply to ground & got -6.56v, this means that the sound board is not dragging the aux. power supply -12V voltage down. Good news. Please confirm the following two measurements. Is this a quality multimeter or a cheap one? - resistor R7 to...

    GTB Raven sound issues

You have proper AC voltage at the input of the four diodes bridge - it does not prove that the diodes are good. Yes, the C7 electrolytic capacitor smoothes the rectified pulsing DC out of the four diodes. What voltage do you measure between ground and one side of R7? What about the voltage...

    High Speed trouble shooting advice

Good test procedure info for an NPN transistor from Drano above. Some transistors might read up to 0.7 volts or so in diode test, and some Darlington drive transistors down to 0.35 volt or so. Note that the machine power must be OFF when performing such test.

    High Speed trouble shooting advice

Look closely at the wiring on these diagnostic switches inside the cash door - is there a wire that is broken-off now? Can it be re-soldered-on, or do you actually need new switches?

    High Speed trouble shooting advice

Do you have the game manual? It makes troubleshooting easier. I prefer original printed manuals when possible. www.ipdb.org has a scan of the game manual if you search for High Speed. Unfortunately it does not appear to include the flash lamps circuit/resistor boards... The flash lamps on the...

    Adam Becker is the #ultimatesternpinballfan

Thanks Scott, I love the hobby, pinball repairs and helping when I can! But... I do not think I can help everyone in every province though, only so much spare time... Luckily there is a bunch of good people around helping too, and this is why I wanted to vote for Adam. I also want to thank you...

What AC voltage do you measure actually, if you put one probe of your multimeter on pin 6 and other probe on pin 7 ? Hopefully it will be close to 12V AC - as expected for this circuit (as opposed to measure each pin compared to ground). Pin 5 measured voltage does appear way too low - either...

You were probably thinking of Docent Electronics: http://www.docentelectronics.com/httpdocs/AmusementGames/Pinball/Gottlieb/system 80 AB.htm I have bought a few System 1 & System 80 MPU-Driver and power-supply-MPU harnesses from them years ago... Yes, the sound addressing leaves the MPU, to...

    System 80b behaviour

Hmmm, is A5 the Aux. Power Supply? If so, and if like Gold Wings, A5 is used only to supply the sound board and it has nothing to do with the MPU, solenoids or tilt/game over relays... In those games, both relays under the playfield are operated like a solenoid, e.g. 24VDC when the coil is...

    System 80b behaviour

For the GI - check the Tilt relay contacts under the playfield - and its drive (coil) from the connector/driver board.

    System 80b behaviour

In cases like this, using a logic probe is a strongly recommended procedure before replacing any chips - to detect where the switch strobe(s) and return(s) might be wrong or stuck on the MPU, tracing back from the U4 6532 RIOT input pins, outputs/inputs of the 7400 Z13 & Z14 to start with... I...

Bally Board - made matters worse ugh!

Fuses need to be checked with a continuity tester (with the machine powered OFF-remove the fuse), as visually it might appear good, but the element inside the fuse might be opened... Next check - on the Solenoid Driver board, top right connector where you have the hack: make sure pins 23,24 of...

Bally Board - made matters worse ugh!

If you are sure the fuse under the playfield is good, thenF4, a 5A fuse on the rectifier board inside the cabinet, might be blown. If so, could be a short, or a shorted BR2 bridge rectifier for the solenoids...

Bally Board - made matters worse ugh!

Seems a possible short occurred (on solenoid wiring, or a shorted drive transistor on the Solenoid Driver board), that took the fuse under the playfield near the flippers... Make sure any hack wiring present on the board did not touch somewhere it is not supposed to. Check/replace the playfield...

    Bally Board advice

I also prefer keeping original boards whenever possible, unless too much corrosion (MPU) or damage/burn holes (Solenoid Driver). Original Solenoid Driver boards are usually very easy to repair. Always make sure fuses are of proper rating (e.g. nothing overfused). I feel a full set of...

    Bally Fireball Classic Sound

Yes, on those sound boards, the volume control is often dirty or spotty. Usually, a very small amount of safe-for-plastic quality contact cleaner spray such as De-Ox-It, followed by turning gently the control up/down multiple times afterwards, will restore the potentiometer for many years -...
